FAQs

Do I need experience?

No, as group sizes are small the session is adapted to your needs. Contact Us if unsure.

Do I need to be able to swim?

No, however it helps if you feel okay to be on the water.  Buoyancy aids are provided and must be worn on the water at all times regardless of your swimming ability.

Are there age restrictions?

There is a minimum age of 8 years.  Specific events, such as paddling on the sea, may vary (details will be published on the event).

What should I wear and bring?

  • Bring clothing appropriate to the weather.
  • No jeans!
  • You'll need shoes that can get wet, like trainers - no wellies or flip-flops!
  • Depending on the weather bring hat, gloves, water/hot flask, sun lotion, towel, change of clothes.
  • Och Aye Canoe supplies wetsuits if required.

Are there changing rooms?

There are no changing rooms at this time - so come prepared with towels etc to change at your car.

Where can I put my belongings and keys when out on the water?

Och Aye Canoe can offer space within their locked pick-up truck for small personal belongings and / or keys, this is as a goodwill gesture.  The truck is locked whilst we are on the water but Och Aye Canoe cannot accept any responsibility for loss or damage to items left in their care.  Otherwise please bring a suitable waterproof bag to take your items with you out on the water,  or have some means to leave in your vehicle.

Can I just turn up on the day?

No, Och Aye Canoe requires you to book and pay in advance.

Is there a discount if I bring my own equipment?

Yes, the discount is applied at the time of booking and is detailed on that event.

Will I capsize?

Och Aye Canoe uses sit-on kayaks which are very stable, and you cannot be trapped in them.  Over the course of 2 years there have been only 5 capsizes!  Obviously it is difficult to answer this question but your safety is of the upmost important during all sessions and the small group sizes allow you to just do what you are comfortable with.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my activity?

Generally our activities go ahead in all weather (even the rain!).  However if Och Aye Canoe cancels your session due to bad weather conditions (normally due to it being too windy) we will offer to move you to a new date, or issue a full refund.  Och Aye Canoe does not issue refunds if a customer decides not to attend (or wants to cancel) when Och Aye Canoe considers conditions safe for the activity to go ahead.

I have experience, can I just rent a kayak or paddleboard myself?

Och Aye Canoe will be offering paddleboard hire on selected days at Lochore, Fife. These must be booked and paid for in advance.

Can I bring a camera?

Yes, however this is at your own risk and Och Aye Canoe cannot accept liability for any damage to or loss of equipment.
